Eligible Courses & Pre-approved Equivalents*
*The term equivalent used in this context refers to the key learning objectives and course content relevant to the overall program curriculum. This is not an indication that they are the same course, nor that the level of effort, practice, and expected performance are the same for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Automatic Waiver Process
No action is needed by the student to apply for automatic waivers!
-
Designated UMSI staff review the final undergraduate transcript for each incoming graduate student to identify all automatic waivers that can be approved.
-
Approved automatic waivers are automatically added to the students record ahead of the registration beginning for their first graduate term.
-
No specific notice is sent, but all applied waivers can be seen on the degree audit.
Criteria for Approval
Students who completed the pre-approved undergraduate equivalent course(s) with a B or better within the 4 academic years prior to beginning their graduate program will be approved for the relative graduate SI course waiver.
Courses not on the pre-approved list are not eligible for an automatic waiver, though students may still complete the process for Skill-Based Waiver Assessment or Individual Waiver Review instead.
What if I completed an equivalent course beyond the approved time frame?
The content of any course may change over time and automatic waivers do not include any additional review of materials or demonstration of competency. To ensure the learning objectives and key content of the pre-approved undergraduate course aligns as closely as possible with those of the course being waived, we can only approve automatic waivers if the pre-approved undergraduate course was completed within the specified time frame.
However, you may still complete the process for Skill-Based Waiver Assessment or Individual Waiver Review, whichever is relevant to the course.
